As a result of his son’s tragic circumstances, Peter Foley searched for meaning and purpose,
thus creating The Caravan Music Club in Oakleigh, Melbourne.
After 10 years, 1350 gigs, and more than 240,000 ticket sales, Peter sees no alternative to closing the doors in Oakleigh for the last time in his response to the Oakleigh Carnegie Returned and Services League’s (RSL) proposal as landlord of the venue.
This film reveals why the Caravan has to close, how it began,
and why Peter has been searching for a new venue “... for the past 8 years.”
Photographer and documentary-maker, Chris Franklin documents the final days of the Caravan in Oakleigh
searching for reasons of it's success and closure.

I was at the 10th anniversary gig at The Caravan. Sitting in the audience, I listened to Peter make his thank you speech during which he mentioned his son Jack. He spoke of how Jack, because of his circumstances, inspired Peter to create The Caravan Music Club.
Its was then when Peter reflected on how he derived strength from his son's memory, I decided to contact Peter suggesting this documentary idea. Working with Peter, Sue, Mary and all the team at the Caravan was like being welcomed by family. Undoubtedly, one of the most enjoyable projects I've worked on. - Chris Franklin |
